Once, Rickson interjected in a discussion about important Gracie family members: "If we're going to talk about importance, we need to talk about Reyson." The fact that his cousin is not nearly as well known as some of the other Gracies, of course, has no effect on Rickson's firm philosophy on hierarchy. He spoke about it in a recent interview. "Of course, Carlos Gracie, Helio Gracie, George Gracie, Gastão, Osvaldo, and then, after that, Carlson, Robson, Reyson, who are the most relevant guys, and then, after that, Rolls, and then myself and others. But the idea of this kind of chain, that kind of pyramid where I have to not only recognize their value, but also feel like I have to be connected in my heart with those valuable warriors, because those are exactly going to represent my future, and they're gonna give me the strength I need to follow my legacy.
"So, without their presence in my spiritual guidance, I could not be here following this pattern, because I'd have nowhere to follow. So I find myself with that guidance from those masters, those warriors, those great men, in order for me to feel safe in securing the position I'm in right now, knowing I'm not inventing anything—I'm just a contributor to the legacy, and pushing this forward for the next hundred years or more."
